Bespoken is a magazine of Scabal that celebrates a tailor-made lifestyle. Per year two editions are printed in English and can be read on iPad with extra video content in the iPad app. On the website you can flip thru the magazine and zoom in. For Bespoken's 5th anniversary or 10th edition, it was not only translated in German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese but also in Arabic. This new Scabal collection is intended to be both refreshing and elegant. Scabal opted for a palette of summery colours ranging from natural and colonial tones in the San Remo and Mosaic collections to shades of grey and more formal blues in the Mayfair and Flamingo Bay qualities. Incredibly light with 160 grams and pleasantly soft is this real Featherweight of our collection. The ultra fine Super 150’s fibres are blended with 15% silk, which gives the cloth its unique elegant lustre. The plain weave construction makes a solid airy cloth and the design range covers everything from the soft summery soft shades to the elegant classics and plains.

The fabric, the soul of tailoring, is where our expertise and heart lie. The fabrics’ origin and creation process are put in a fresh light. Twice a year, Scabal presents various new fabric collections, each one represented by a key fabric. Each key fabric will be coupled with a fictional male character whose name and accompanying short story will reflect the fabric’s nature, quality, and visual properties. In short, each fabric will get its own godfather. In this way, our fabrics will become vivid personalities, which hopefully will inspire you and will make it easier for you to grasp a fabric, to understand its technical properties and various design possibilities. Scabal Vintage linen |

For the fashionable man, Scabal offers a light pure Linen quality of 260g. The collection follows the trend for a special vintage look. The subdued shades such as lavender blue, olive and dark brown reflect this new trend. Linen is a vegetable fibre taken from the flax plant (on the right), in Latin "linium usiatissimum". It is very hard wearing and cool. Ideal for hot weather. Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world: their history goes back many thousands of years. Linen was sometimes used as currency in ancient Egypt. Egyptian mummies were wrapped in linen because it was seen as a symbol of light and purity, and as a display of wealth. Some of these fabrics, woven from hand spun yarns, were very fine for their day, but are coarse compared to modern linen. When the tomb of the Pharaoh Ramses II, was discovered in 1881, the linen wrappings were in a state of perfect preservation - after more than 3000 years. Linen is among the strongest of the vegetable fibers, with 2 to 3 times the strength of cotton. |  |

Royal Ascot is the most famous horse racing meeting in the world. Renowned for its high-status reputation it’s become one of the major events of the British social calendar. It was Queen Anne who first suggested a racecourse at Ascot back in 1711. Royal Ascot is held in mid-June each year; the dates for 2011 are from Tuesday 14th June to Saturday 18th June. Royal Ascot is prestigious but the Royal Enclosure is the most prestigious part of Royal Ascot! As you might expect, access to the Royal Enclosure is very restricted. To be allowed in for the first time you must be sponsored by someone who has attended the Royal Enclosure over at least four years, though these don’t have to be consecutive years. In the Royal Enclosure the dress code is more strict than elsewhere. Men have to wear a full morning suit, in either black or grey, including a waistcoat and a top hat. Royal Ascot is renowned for being a very smart occasion. Put on your best suit or better your best morning coat ! For your Spring-Summer suits, Scabal offers a brand new collection called “Mirage”, a fine Super 140’s quality with a superior lightweight handle of 210 grammes. “Mirage” is so light that the fabrics seems to fly in the air. A fine worsted 2-ply yarn in warp and weft makes the airy plain weave nevertheless feel solid – the unique elegance and the luxury feel of the superfine wool fibres are combined with high-performance and comfortable wear-properties. More than 400 VIPs from Syrian diplomatic, business and political circles attended a reception in October 2010 to celebrate the opening of the first-ever Scabal store in Damascus. New USA office and improved delivery service |

Scabal is pleased to announce the opening of its new USA office, in the prestigious "Love" building in the Plaza District at 55th Street and Avenue of the Americas, New York on Friday 5th November 2010. The office will co-ordinate and process all Scabal orders, handle shipping and be available to help you with sales and accounting matters. Scabal USA The office will be run by Minerva Padron who has recently joined Scabal USA. Harvey Resnick will continue to work for Scabal in his capacity as Sales Executive. Fabric Czar will also continue to assist Scabal in its commercial dealings with a number of specific accounts. Scabal is also pleased to announce the introduction of an improved delivery service from FEDEX. Shipments will continue to leave Brussels every Tuesday and Friday but beginning November 5th, ALL shipments to the United States will be sent direct to the final destination. This will enable Scabal to offer an improved delivery time. Moreover, Scabal will charge a fixed fee of only $12.50 per shipment, regardless of the number of cut lengths or destination in the United States. | In 20 years time restaurant Sea Grill in Brussels has succeeded to build up an international reputation with star chef Yves Mattagne. The restaurant was completely renovated and Yves Mattagne is now also the owner.
Different art works attract the visitor's attention. Warm colors and dimmed light give it all a home-feeling. Scabal dresses the staff, contributing to the luxury feeling. Riverside : a new fabrics collection |

Scabal has introduced the Riverside collection: an elegant 290g 120’s suiting cloth with a beautiful touch. Produced in our own mill in Yorkshire, England, Riverside is scoured in exceptionally soft Pennine river water, giving it a natural finish and soft feel rarely achieved with 120’s wool. Designs for this lighter-weight winter cloth are elegant and fancy, ranging from soft-coloured stripes to hairline ground creations. |  |

The new model:more colour, more casual It’s not a seismic shift, but there’s a distinct move towards casual wear in Scabal’s 2010 Autumn-Winter collection. Scabal is expanding its men’s casual-wear business. Five of the eight new winter fabrics are for jackets and trousers and there’s an exciting new line of ‘soft jackets’ in addition to cardigans and jumpers. Colours next autumn will be just a shade brighter and greens are making a comeback. The Scabal collection features four colour themes: beige-brown and purple, blue with earl grey, green shades, and beige-cream with dark red. | Daan Stuyven (°1969) from the band DAAN requested Scabal to dress him for his live performances. It is an honour to dress this pop rock band personae. He started at the end of the eighties with the band Citizin Kane and took up a new band in the nineties with a guitar player from Deus to form the band Dead Man Ray. In the meantime he continues as a graphic designer for bands, designing many cd covers.
For the inauguration of the Belgian presidency of Europe, Daan flew in his Scabal "Capri" suit over the Place de Luxembourg in Brussels, while a 48-heads orchestra performed "Housewife". He included a personal sentence stitched into his suit: ‘My dear blue suit, call me when lost’, with his mobile number next to it. >> www.daan.be |  |
24 hrs Golf cup in Salzburg |

| Scabal participated in the organisation of the first 24 hour golf cup in Europe with our Austrian customer Wanger. Scabal designed outfits for the more formal part of the golf event. The event happened at Gut Altentann in Henndorf, a mythical golf club designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1989. Wanger is located near the Salzach river in Salzburg at the most prestigious location "Getreidegasse" . The store is a premium authorized dealer of Scabal Made-To-Measure, Ready-To-Wear and Accessories. They are an exclusive reseller of N°12 in the Salzburg region. Salzburg is the fourth-largest city in Austria with world famous baroque architecture. It's "Old Town" (Altstadt) was listed in 1997 as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Don Giovanni is an opera in two acts with music by Mozart and with an Italian libretto by Da Ponte. It took them four months to write this master piece and it was premièred in 1787. Although sometimes classified as comic, it blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements. It is the seventh most play opera in North America. A film was made in 1979 directed by Joseph Losey starring the best singers of its day: Ruggero Raimondi, Edda Moser, José van Dam, Teresa Berganza etc. The action happens in Sevilla in the 17h century. Don Giovanni wants to conquer all women that he pleases. In his search for new adventures, he fears nothing but the devine punishment lures around the corner. Scabal's customer La Griffe Mesure (Marseille and Lyon) has made all suits worn on stage for this opera performed at the Théâtre de l'Archevêché in Aix-en-Provence (France) and directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov. This Russian stage director born in 1970 in Moscow has won many awards. The French conductor Louis Langrée decided to work without partition for this opera. Scabal is pleased to announce that in collaboration with our long term Turkish partner a new Scabal store is opening in Istanbul in the five star hotel Avantgarde. The hotel has a luxurious decoration, a big spa area, delicious cuisine, high tech meeting rooms and top level services. Already for 54 years the Eurovision Song Contest is a huge European TV show viewed by over 122 million people. After more than five decades featuring some 1100 songs, the Belgian contestant Tom Dice has chosen blue fabrics 500391 and 500393 from Scabal's "Capri" collection for his on-stage showsuit. This plain pure wool fabric was turned into a splashing suit by Scabal's fabric customer LGD from Antwerp. This year, the Eurovision Song Contest is held in Oslo (Norway) and consists of 3 live shows (25th, 27th and 29th May). 39 countries will be represented in the Telenor Arena that can hold up to 23000 spectators. |  |

On Sunday March 7 the first Delvaux show was held at a magnificent private manor at the Parisian Avenue Foch. For the presentation of the Winter 2010/2011 women's accessories collection, Scabal dressed the models. Jackets and shirts were made to measure especially fitting the female silhouette of the models. Véronique Branquinho - from the Antwerp 6 - made a selection of 20 fabrics from the Scabal collections "Flannel", "Pegasus", "Favorite", "Donegal", "Trend", "Luxury jackets" and "Festival".

Scabal is pleased to present you a new summer jacket with a series of monochrome fabrics, the warmth is in the textures and shades of this cotton, linen and wool and other typical Scabal blends. As these jackets seem discreet on the outside, they are a welcome surprise on the inside. To spice up this summer, we created rich, colourful linings. Two colour prints in light blue or taupe on white or funky four colour paisleys, this season is about daring accents and trendy contrasts. Exclusively made in Como, Italy, these vivid patterns were printed on fine satin cotton. They can be used for Scabal's Made For You line as full or halve linings, contrasting edge, under collar fabric, pocket lining or hanky. For Summer 2010 Scabal extends its jeans line. In the winter season Scabal presented a jeans collection for the first time and now will offer more qualities, colours and sizes. The idea is to dress the businessman with style also in his leisure hours. Three qualities are on offer: 100% wool, cotton/elastane and cotton/cashmere/elastane for a five pocket look in denim or chinos. For durability fabrics have been chosen between 340 and 495 grams. |  |

Treasure Box: gold and platinum |

Scabal is always raising the bar when it involves luxury and technical know-how. One of the more carefully guarded secrets is the procedure Scabal uses for incorporating gold into its fabrics. Now the luxury fabric producer has used the very latest techniques to incorporate platinum and 24-carat gold into a new fabric collection called “Treasure Box”. The first Scabal cloth with gold was “Gold Treasure”, a fabric incorporating 22-carat gold, and was launched in 1999. The continuing demand meant the collection was re-launched in 2005 with new designs. Gold fever has obviously struck Scabal and they are now launching an ultra fine Super 150’s wool from an exceptional bale of Australian merinos wool in which precious metals are incorporated. |  |

| In close, respectful collaboration, the craftsmen of Scabal and Delvaux worked together to create perfectly finished bespoke designs in high quality fabric and leather. And that should come as no surprise. Scabal has been creating high quality men's suiting for over seventy years. Since the 1970s, they have been used in the House's own menswear collections and bespoke suits. Since 1829, Delvaux, the oldest fine luxury leather goods company in the world, has sold limited edition luxury leather goods.

Just as in Van Looy's previous movie "De Zaak Alzheimer”, Scabal dressed several actors: Koen De Bouw, Bruno Vanden Broecke and Jan Decleir all wear made-to-measure suits. The evening before the official release, Scabal organised an exclusive preview for it's customers and relations followed by a cocktail at the legendary 19th century Hotel Metropole in Brussels. | Scabal decided to develop a fabric that is comfortable at any temperature, and in any season, an innovation that signals a major new trend. “Four Seasons” is the name of this Super 120’s Wool in 280-gram weight made by Scabal’s Bower Roebuck mill in England. Since Scabal is an environmentally- aware company, the new fabric is made exclusively from eco-friendly wool. That is wool from sheep who graze on pastures that have not been treated with chemical fertilisers or pesticides. The flocks are also limited in size, which benefits the environment as well as animal health. The “Four Seasons” fabric has been treated with a Silver Ion Technology that keeps it hygienic and fresh. This treatment is imperceptible, and does not affect the texture and luxurious feel of the fabric. | Scabal has participated in the famous Antwerp fashion show by giving the Scabal award to the young designer Yu Fukumoto who studies at the Antwerp academy. In this way Scabal hopes to support a new breed of tailors. A formal men's collection with beautiful twists and turns. By adding pockets that are supposed to be used for hunting and collecting paraphernalia, Fukumoto turned them into decorative but still functional elements. The "boy catcher" (as Tim Blanks referred to him due to his presentation which showed a model with a butterfly net over his head) had created a very inventive briefcase, also made of butterfly netting. The star of our new collection is without doubt Sunrise, 50 per cent Super 200’s wool and 50 per cent silk, it is a luxury gentlemen’s suiting cloth at the very top end of the market – with a soft touch, light feel and beautiful shine”. Sunrise is a cloth produced in Scabal’s own weaving plant in Huddersfield (England). Spinning and weaving this delicate wool and silk composition - a marriage made in heaven - is not an easy task as it is very labour-intensive. At the end of 1999, on the eve of the new millennium, Scabal introduced its “Gold Treasure” fabric: an ultra-fine Super 150’s wool, originating from a special bale of Australian merino wool that was enriched with 22 carat gold. A beautiful piece of technical ingenuity, its production secret carefully guarded. At the same time it was a wonderful and sparkling way to start the third millennium. It was much more than just a millennium stunt, however. More and more men were interested in having a suit made of this exclusive fabric, with its expanding range of patterns. Scabal now offers a tie made of the Gold Treasure material. The tie is an idea and valuable gift to place under the Christmas tree. A limited amount of 200 of these ties were brought onto the market and sold out instantly. Saxon Merino sheep are found exclusively in the higher rainfall country of southern Australia, especially in the highlands of Tasmania, the cooler and wetter regions of Victoria and tablelands of New South Wales. Just as these climactic and pastoral conditions contrast with those where the South Australian Merino is found, so too in almost every respect do the sheep. Physically the smallest of the Merino types, cutting the lowest weight in wool (4-5kg.), the Saxon Merino is without peer in the quality of wool produced. Specifically, this wool is extremely bright and white in colour, soft to handle and fine (i.e. narrow) in diameter. These features make this wool prized by the textile industry for the highest quality and most expensive cloths it can produce. | The New York University organizes a conference in New York : "Dressing the Part: The Masculine and Feminine in Fashion".
Scabal is pleased to announce it's sponsorship of this conference that takes place from Thursday December 1 till Saturday December 3. They explore the feminine and masculine elements in fashion, their origins, influences on and current expressions of them, examing both clothes for women and men. Designers such as Emanuel Ungaro and Kean Etro are key note speakers. The conference is organized by Lisa Koenigsberg, advisor to the Dean for Arts Initiatives and adjunct professor of the arts, NYU (SCPS), who established the NYU series of fashion conferences; she is the founder and President of Initiatives in Art and Culture. | "Rich Rewards" is the title of the 2 page DNR article about Scabal's top quality fabrics: Gold Treasure, Diamond Chip and Lapis Lazuli are mentioned as the very best available in fabrics today.
"Our product is very much an emotional product", says Neil Hart, sales director of Scabal. Which is why, back in 1999, Scabal launched its Gold Treasure collection, an assortment of super 150s made from Australian merino, which incorporates 22-karat-gold thread into its otherwise conservative cloth. That, in turn, was followed by a Diamond Chip collection, made by taking microscope fragments from an Antwerp gem cutter and dispersing them into cleaned, combed wool before it's spun into yarn. More recently, the company added Lapis Lazuli to its lineup: a 14-part collection made in much the same way as its Diamond Chip designs, but using fragments of the semiprecious stone in Super 150s wools that are dyed with decoration to evoke true lapis blue. | Twenty-five years ago, Scabal launched the world's first cloth finer than Super 100's and, since then, it has pursued an unceasing quest for the finest wools in the world. In 2000, Scabal created a Super 200's quality, called Exceptional. Now, after five more years of tireless research, Scabal has reached the pinnacle in ultrafine Australian wools and is proud to announce the arrival of a cloth worthy of the name, SUMMIT.
It is so fine to the touch that Scabal's own technicians immediately called it Super 250's. SUMMIT is an ultra-ultrafine fibre in the lower 12 micron range, and is processed in its purest form without corrupting it with other luxury fibres. It is extremely consistent along its length, has high strength, incomparable lustre and a natural comfort which is due to the fibres' wave-like crimps. A wool this fine deserves nothing but the finest treatment, and Scabal has obliged. The wool is meticulously processed using artisan methods in Scabal’s own design and weaving department in Huddersfield, England. From cleaning through spinning and weaving to final finishing, no effort is spared. This extraordinarily fine Super 250's fabric has intentionally been spun to a medium count of two nineties (2/90). This results in a medium all-round weight of 280g/m and gives the ultrafine wool a full, rich, flowing handle. Traditional processing follows SUMMIT to the very end, with a special paper pressing for comfort, drape and easy tailoring. SUMMIT is 100% wool with a handle and feel to rival cashmere and an elegant, natural drape that truly does make it the ultimate choice for sophisticated tailoring. | ) |

As it is ultra-soft to touch and gives a subtle sheen, it easily surpasses all other natural fibres. The bamboo fibre is derived from the bamboo harvest specially grown for the textile industry and mixed with another outstanding natural fabric, cotton. | It was at the end of 1999 that Scabal first brought out the ‘Gold Treasure’ cloth, an ultra-fine Super 150’s, originating from an exceptional bale of Australian merino wool and enriched with a 22 carat gold thread. A fine example of technical ingenuity, the production secret of which has been carefully kept secret. Given its tremendous worldwide success, Scabal is now launching six brand new ‘Gold Treasure’ designs. They are still in black, anthracite black and midnight blue, colours which all enhance the gold thread to the maximum. Given the fact that Scabal is always striving for further improvements, this new luxury cloth range contains more gold thread than the previous collection. The full Gold Treasure collection consists of 12 different designs. The patterns are developed in-house, and the quality production takes place in England using age-old techniques of true craftsmanship. This cloth is available to clients who wish to own a truly exceptional and unique suit. A unique design in a unique cloth for men who love unmitigated luxury. Hence the dressing room of Luis Miguel, the famous Latin-American singer, who has sold 50 million albums and won 7 Grammy Awards, boasts two Gold Treasure suits in his wardrobe. Just recently, a well-to-do Scabal client from the Middle East visited Scabal’s Flagship Store at 12 Savile Row (London) and purchased five cut lengths of cloth in four different Gold Treasure designs. | What is new in the Scabal 2005-2006 Autumn-Winter collection is the Triple A or AAA collection, a description which is currently no longer in use in Western Europe, but which was used for decades to describe a high quality type of wool. The fabric is a Super 120’s wool to which is added another luxurious natural fibre, cashmere. This collection is produced in Scabal’s own factory in Huddersfield (England), and offers exceptional elegance. The Triple A collection comprises 58 designs. |  |

In July 2003, a large quantity of cloth from the Scabal "Festival" and "New Bond Street" collections was delivered for this film directed by Martin Scorsese. The Aviator tells the story of aviation pioneer Howard Highes (Leonardo Di Caprio), an eccentric American billionaire industrialist and glamorous motion picture producer. Dali Tribute |

May 2004 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the artistic genius Salvador Dalí. Scabal wanted to pay tribute in its own way to this Spanish artist. Scabal has a thing about art and Dalí. More than thirty years ago, Scabal commissioned Dalí to make 12 paintings about his view of clothes of the then still futuristic 3rd millennium. The paintings that Dalí made for Scabal inspired Scabal's fabric designers to create 12 comparable fabrics. What at first glance looks like a classic light fabric turns out on closer inspection to be a play of irregular stripes and daring colour accents. "We went to work more frivolously than we usually do," says Michael Day from Scabal's creative department. We wanted to faithfully reproduce the innovative and groundbreaking character of Dalí's style in this collection. The fabric is a Super 120's wool with cashmere and has a weight of 320gram. We deliberately kept it affordable because we think that every loyal Scabal customer should be able to share the enjoyment of this tribute to Dalí."
