Scabal develops its special fabrics by selecting the rarest and most luxurious fibers, as for example gold, diamond fragments, Super 250’S or Vicuña. These very high quality-fabrics are brought out in limited editions, in between seasons.
Scabal is always raising the bar when it involves luxury and technical know-how. One of the more carefully guarded secrets is the procedure Scabal uses for incorporating gold into its fabrics. Now the luxury fabric producer has used the very latest techniques to incorporate platinum and 24-carat gold into a new fabric collection called “Treasure Box”.
The first Scabal cloth with gold was “Gold Treasure”, a fabric incorporating 22-carat gold, and was launched in 1999. The continuing demand meant the collection was re-launched in 2005 with new designs.
Gold fever has obviously struck Scabal and they are now launching an ultra fine Super 150’s wool from an exceptional bale of Australian merinos wool in which precious metals are incorporated.
Ultimate luxury
The “Treasure Box” collection offers 15 high-quality fabrics between 230 and 300 grams: the seven most successful fabrics from the “Gold Treasure” 22-carat collection, three with platinum, two 24-carat gold designs and three fabrics with both platinum and 24-carat gold designs. The designs are in-house originals; the production is done in England.
Historically gold has always been a symbol of affluence because of its lustre and scarcity. Egyptian hieroglyphics dating from the 26th century B.C. tell us that gold was a method of payment. Until approximately halfway through the 20th century A.D., gold was still often used for coinage. From ancient times it has been regarded as having magical properties and as a symbol of purity. Nowadays 24-carat gold is the purest gold. Platinum is a flexible, pliable metal that has a beautiful grey-white sheen. The platinum and gold flecks in the “Treasure box” collection are beautifully set off by the midnight blue, anthracite grey and black background and help accentuate the elegance of the suit. Depending on the design, the precious metal can be seen in all its splendour or remains very discreet.
