SCABAL SPRING SUMMER 2009
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TRADITION AND FUTURE
|
This summer, Scabal takes us to a white studio. A vacant space, which is slowly filled with references to art and design, but also with pure nostalgia. Think Magritte and Le Corbusier. Remember the large travel cases from an era when travel was all about sheer luxury. Heavy books with beautiful leather book bindings. At first glance, the summer collection is minimalistic and cool: black and white dominate, with hints of grey and subtle shades in similarly discreet patterns. Authentic natural cloths enter into a pact with technical materials and thus bridge the gap with the future. The outcome is a new, contemporary and relaxed experience of absolute luxury, where the emphasis is on comfort and lightness. As far as suits go, the trend of slim-fit silhouettes is continuing into the summer although new combinations and layers provide a different take on this style. |
Four atmospheresThe Scabal collection has four main themes. The most important theme is built up around light grey hues, white, light blue and beige, in combination with a sunny soft yellow. The light-weight cloths are quite high-tech. Iridescent yarns lend a modern touch to the fabric. Dry, paper-touch cloths emphasise the cool & urban feel. Faux-unis, delicate herringbone patterns and the natural textures of irregular, organic yarns alternate with plain and unpatterned, refined cloths. The outcome has an effortlessly modern, airy and summery feel to it. A second theme draws its inspiration from the colours of Africa and in modern art. This theme brings together elements from North and South, East and West. Beige and sand colours alternate with dark colours. The deep brown of dark wood such as mahogany and wenge (African rosewood) is subtly combined with pinks and reds. The amalgam of dark brown and ivory creates a nice contrast, reminiscent of the keys of a piano. Black and white combos in the Scabal N°12 collection result in a bold palette. The cloths are subtly iridescent and above all soft. The dry touch of linen is tempered thanks to cashmere, silk and cotton blends. Cotton takes on a noble and soft touch, thanks to the presence of silk. Casual becomes luxurious and conversely, luxury is all about a casual feel: effortless and simple luxury. The patterns include micro patterns and herringbones, as well as stripes and changeant fabrics with dark patterns against a dark background. The result is a smart suit, with a New Bohemian feel to it, a style replete with fantasy for men who prefer an original, more individual style. |

A third theme combines traditional grey with green and lilac and is updated and emphasized with a hint of purple. Craftsmanship goes hand in hand with technological skills. Vegetable fibres are used in blends with high-tech yarns, creating small and refined patterns in tone on tone or chiaroscuro contrasts. The silhouettes are functional and comfortable, and the cloths are eminently suited to businessmen in search of a top-quality comfortable travel suit. The colour palette of the fourth theme draws its inspiration from the ocean, such as deep blue with hints of orange and white, and thus refers to shellfish and shells. This theme is based on a contemporary, new luxurious interpretation of the casual look, with an optimistic reference to sunny California. Ultra-clean gabardines with a cool finish and a technical feel make up the core of this theme. Luxurious blends of cotton, wool, silk and linen are either casual and sporty, or elegant and chic. The patterns vary: simple stripes or subtle tone on tone patterns. |
THE SUIT COLLECTION: NEW PROPORTIONSScabal follows the evolution in men’s fashion and introduces a completely new model with new proportions. The fit is slimmer, the cut narrower. The sleeves are narrower with a higher pitch. The jacket is shorter and has one vent at the back. The lapels are also narrower. The waist is more emphasized and generally lower. The slimmer silhouettes also impact the trousers, resulting in a lowered waist band and slim-fit legs. The result is a young, sharp and modern look, designed to appeal to men, who wish to expand their selection of suits and are in search of a modern look. |
